Mood Swings- How to Overcome Them

I am happy & then I am sad in a moment

Human beings are totally driven by emotions. Every single action influence the way we react & think. Ever wondered we are surrounded by best pals, yet we start feeling alone & despair. The abrupt change involving vicious cycle of “happy-sad-depressed-happy” behaviours among individuals is often termed as mood swings. Few people experience mood swings more than others in a moment. Well, it’s not bad to talk about this topic. After all it is to do with us, human beings….

With this article I intend to share few tips which, in my view, help in mood alteration.

Express yourself- One of the gravest realities of the digitised world are the dwindling human connections. We are surrounded by acquaintances, yet we are alone. We have physical friends, family around. Yet we lack emotional connect. Man is a social animal. We are gregarious by nature & need to interact, express, laugh with others. Human beings witness highs & lows in their lives. Whether you are trying to come out of broken relationship, bad marriage, sudden demise of close one/friend, coping with such situations without any mentor tends to make people more irritable & deter them to concentrate on other areas. The laugh of an innocent child, playing with your children for 10 minutes once you return home after a long day's work boosts your mood.

Lap of Mother Nature & Sunlight -Nature is man’s best friend. The lush green grass, gleam sunlight is known to alleviate mood. Sunlight, being the rich source of vitamin D. Regular exposure to sunlight increases the serotonin level in our body thereby making us more active & changing the state of our mood from “not –so-happy” to “enthusiastic”.

Taking a stroll in a nearby park watching the blooming colourful flowers & hearing the chirping of birds enlightens us & work as anti-depressant.

Sweat it out- Well it is self-explanatory. Following a strict exercise regimen or working out for 15-20 minutes daily ensures active & healthy body. People who exercise regularly benefit with positive boost in mood. While working out, our body release chemicals called endorphins known for framing a positive feeling in our body. Be it yoga, aerobics, hitting out a gym, sports- make your body sweat out & notice the difference in yourself & the way of looking at things.

Aromatherapy- Needless to say, markets are flooded with natural oils extracted from flowers, stems, herbal teas & supplements. Pungent aromas from jasmine, rosemary, lavender is useful for altering mood & they are must haves in every home. Herbal infusion teas such as lemony flavoured, minty flavor, peppermint are said to provide calming & soothing effect while experiencing bad moods during headaches or migraines.

Few oils & their healing effects

Meditation- This is an elixir & the benefits are known to the entire world. It is practise of balancing our mind & body that enables us to focus to achieve great state of calmness. When you focus on breathing your mind satiate & calms down. Meditating on regular basis makes the body less agitated & develops coherent thought process, thereby overcoming life’s events with much more ease.

Reflective activities-People have become corporate slaves. Working for more than 11 hours in a day leaves us with very little or may be no time for ourselves. A life without a hobby or leisure activities loses it nuances. Gardening, writing, listening to music, dancing, photography, reading are to name a few that people love to do in their “me time”. Following a hobby passionately is helpful in leading a focused & healthy life. The more time you give to yourself, the less you to think about the negative aspects of life. You may have a bad day at office or scuffle with your partner. However you tend to forget whilst you engross yourself in other activities.

Dark Chocolate- Yes, I can vouch on this. Perhaps I have no qualms in admitting this that I have also resorted to savouring dark chocolate while feeling moody. Dark chocolates stimulate the production of endorphins & serotonin that brings feeling of pleasure in the brain. All you girls however make sure that you consume dark chocolate in moderation. Staying in shape is equally important though..Huh!!!

To conclude, it is equally important to develop positive & optimistic view towards life. Let you be the preserver & creator of your life. Don’t be too harsh on yourself.  Robin Sharma quotes aptly in one of his bestseller “Family Wisdom”- Leadership in organization begins with Leadership at home

Whenever you falter, get up. Dust yourself & get ready for the next shot.

Life is a precious gift. Don’t spoil it by mere formation of bad moods.. Hoping that the above article will help everyone in overcoming mood swings, I sign off for today & promise to hit back with an enthralling new topic.

Goa As Seen From My Eyes

8th July 2016- It was 1320 hours when the plane landed at Dabolim airport. As we stepped out, cool breeze flowing added more to the excitement. The place welcomed us with refreshing gentle wind filled with aroma of wet sand. What else could have one asked for. As the cab drove us to the hotel, we were entranced by the captivating view of the Arabian Sea . Both sides of the road were covered by coconut trees with wind stirring their branches. As we crossed Mapusa, roads became narrower with bars, taverns, hotels and restaurants constructed with beautiful facade resembling Portuguese architecture. Equally, enchanting was to see lanterns hung at the entrance of the colourful houses. The drive involving transfer from airport to the hotel was rejuvenating that guaranteed a trip loaded with excitement.   It was monsoon and the entire state was wet and looked surreal. The clouds were partly covered by the grey lining. Though Goa is known for beaches, yet

Million Dollar Smile of Rickshaw Puller

It was freezing cold night of December. We came out of local restaurant at 2200 hours after feasting the scrumptious food and started searching for a cab to go back to hotel wandering through narrow streets of Amritsar . The street was almost empty with few local vendors selling favourite dessert of India, Gulab Jamun in tiny kiosks.  We decided to walk to hotel but looking at the distance and newness to the city, we gave up the idea. Trawling, we reached the middle of the street where we found a man sitting on the threshold of the stairs of one house. We asked him if he can guide us so that we can reach to hotel. He suggested hiring a rickshaw instead of searching the cab. A rickshaw puller was standing few steps away. A man called him and asked him to drop us to the hotel.  At first, we were unwilling, but the man assured us that he will drop us safely. Moreover, the rickshaw puller was known to him and he used to ferry school kids from the same street. The rickshaw puller

DIFFERENT SHADES OF HAPPINESS

In October 2017 I visited Dilli Haat with my mother to enjoy the organic food festival. We walked through various stalls and bought some organic stuff. It was at one of the stall, while buying lemongrass, when she already handed over the money to the vendor, she changed mind and decided not to buy the same. Without realizing that she hasn’t taken the money back, she politely refused the vendor and started walking with small steps. She must have walked few steps ahead when a quaint voice stopped her “Mam you forgot your money”. Customary, my mother collected the money, appreciated him for his integrity and honesty. The vendor, a young boy hailing from Uttarakhand, became the hero for us. The mere thought that honesty still prevails and people do have strong value system made both of us happy. While travelling in metro last week, a small kid boarded metro with his mother and started roaming. People were enamoured by his innocence, his gullible acts. He would walk few tiny s
